Promise this is my last post of the night.
Yes, I have read the thread on Stone Guards and their replacement. Some say replace with clear others say leave off. Seems 50/50 to me so I figured a poll was in order.
How do you run?

On the stone guards? I can just make 'em myself. I made the black set on the car now with a stock of vinyl I bought from a local plastics material distributor. I've got a whole bunch of colors including white & black but no clear. I may take a trip over there in a couple of weeks and if they have some clear material, I'll buy it then.

Stone guards are manditory on the roads I drive on. I replaced the ones in front of the rear fenders with "Trim Brite" black semi bumpy version. When I repainted I had New England Rallysport redo the factory "Wurth Anti-Schutz" stone guard on the lower rocker area with the same stuff prior to paint. I need to do the trailing edge of the fenders in clear.

Why not use Chip Guard, a spray-on product from SEM that's available at car paint supply shops? At ~$15 per can, it covers as much or more than a complete Stone Guard kit, is easier to apply (just spray on), and can be removed later with solvent. Comes in clear and in black.
I sprayed the front of my Bimmer, including lenses, a year ago and no rock chips or grit sandblasting of surfaces since then. Works, at a fraction of the price of Stone Guard. Make it as thick or thin as you like. The stuff the factory sprayed on the rocker panels is essentially the same as Chip Guard, so if you inspect your stock rocker panels in comparison to your OEM Stone Guard stuff, you'll see the rocker panel spray-on stuff probably held up better over the years.
