Default I'm on borrowed time...(possible gtg in NC??)

Okay, and a mechanic do an inspection recently, seems I have sprung a leak and need to have a front engine re-seal soon. Not to big a deal, as it didn't cost that much the first time.

However, he said I was on "borrowed time" when it came to my ball joints, so I need to get this fixed PRONTO! SO, if I can find the parts, does anyone in NC wanna lend a garage and help me, or maybe even have a gtg at the time? Anyone? I am in desperate need of a garge soon...

Tim-

It won't take a garage to do this, just parts and willing accomplices. Easiest if you have an extra set of good a-arms that can just swap in and rebuild the others later.

Tim:

I've rebuilt my '87's A-Arms, and I have the parts to rebuild my 951's A-Arms. I have the tools, and a 2 car garage with a 'fridge, AM/FM/CD stereo and color TV w/cable.

I actually did this job about a year ago. The first one took me 12 hours, the second took me 1/2 hour. Just goes to show how far experience goes!

In any case I've got a garage, not a big one but it has enough room to do some work in.

Looks like you've got a couple of offers, so just let us know when!

Tim call Travis at Rennbay 954-445-6437 for some ball joints. I rebuilt mine using his GCK kit and for a novice the instructions made it simple.

Thanks for the help guys! I will let you know when i get the parts (hopefully within the next week...as I don't have 200 dollars right now...stupid cigar habit...why did I have to start NOW!) Cliff's sounds like a winner, and maybe we can take a look at my e-brake while we are at it.

Also, was this JUST for the ball joints or was it for the front engine seal as well?

Edit: Would the Deluxe Kit from rennbay suffice??

If your ball pins are in good shape, the deluxe kit should be just fine for a street car.

Tim:

I'm up for doing the ball joints because I've done them before. I've never done a front reseal (knock on wood!), so maybe we need another volunteer who has some experience in this area?

How 'bout it? Anyone in the Charlotte area want to give Tim a hand with a front reseal?

i'm ready to do my arms right now, too. ball joints, front bushings and 968 caster blocks. I have all the parts - I was waiting until after our spring fun run, but maybe I'll hook up and bring my arms over to wherever the party is.

p.s. i'm up for helping tim on the reseal.

cliff,
do you have a small bottle press or otherwise to press out the front bushing sleeves?

Such honesty.

Make sure you have a decent vice! This job can be such a headache without proper tools. I would get some used control arms off ebay and swap those in while you're rebuilding. I know how much of a PITA it is not having your own garage!

Tim:

Sorry for the delay. We'er ON for this Sunday, so I have a full weekend. I get to do brakes on the wife's Forester, the 951 gets a new water pump and maybe ball joints, and my NA needs some TLC.

I'd like to start EARLY Sunday. PM me for directions.
