Default A stupid instrument question

Why do all the US cars seem to have a 6 digit mileage indicator, but my 944 has only 5 digits? Hence it only shows as having done 47000km.
Is it because we got Euro spec cars?
Of course everybody knew I meant Odometer. Right?

The early 944 here is also 5 digits. I think Porsche felt Americans would be distrustful of any car that made it past 100K after owning so many classics like the Corvair, Vega, and Pinto.

Early 944's and 924's all had 5 digits odometers. The later 85.5 and up cars had 6. I think that even the later 924S' may have had the newer 6 digit.

I may be wrong but I think that a few out there have 6 digits but they might have been a replacement. Chris 924S hop in on the later 924S' please?

Michael
