Default Cleaning the hub?

What should I use to clean the hub? I was going to use brake cleaner but I don't know if that's a good idea...

Yes - that is a good idea. It's also a good idea to use a wire brush if there is a lot of corrosion on the hub. I must assume you got the caliper bolts off. It's rather hard to access the hub with the rotor in place - and you can't get the rotor off while the caliper is still on.

Do your self a favor. Get some anti-seize and use it in all the places you found corrosion where two metal parts interface. E.g between the the hub and the rotor, on your NEW caliper mounting bolts, around the pilot bore of your wheels and on the wheel studs. Don't over do it. Just enough to provide a little lubrication (long term lubrication).

Isn't the hub aluminum though? The can of brake cleaner says not to use on aluminum...

The hub is aluminum, but so is the caliper.

Are you cleaning the outside of teh hub, or the inside where the bearings are?

Boy, me too! I just used the same thing to clean my hubs for new bearings. Nice thing about working at a car dealership is all the benefits of having a shop.

For future refference, acetone on a rag does a great job, and is hand friendly and evaporates = easy cleanup.
