My brother and I pulled my engine, changed clutch, front seals, belts and water pump in 1 day. Made it so easy to work.....

I'm going to stuff a rag in the gas tank and light that SOB on fire. I swear.

Up doesn't help, as it just runs into the firewall itself. Its not the firewall that is the problem, they put an effing bracket for the rear brake lines RIGHT THERE. I cant even get the low profile swivel socket I bought for this on there. Its only the depth of the damn bolt head.

I guess I could drop the crossmember a bit. Or I could just blow the damn thing up.

*choices, choices*

Hey bro, Have you heard of gear wrenches? I have been using them on aircraft jet engines for years because of the close tolerances, And very little room to work. Anyway, I bought a set of metric Gearwrenches a while back and they are a life saver on the 944. try them out....Sears has em.....

That bracket is on a weld stud to the body, I couldn't move mine either. Yours sounds even tighter. I bought a swivel socket also and it wouldn't fit. Have you tried an offset box-end wrench yet? This seems to be an early thing, I think Porsche put more clearance at the firewall on the later cars. I swear that one bolt took me as long long as dropping the trans and sliding the torque tube. Even when you get it loose, it will barely clear the firewall as you back it out. A good gear wrench might work if the head is thin enough. I feel your pain really. Clutches on these things are an E-ticket to Hell,

At this point I've got nothing left. It will be easier. I should have started there. At least it will give me a reason to replace that lower coolant hose.

Are you working on the top belhousing bolt on the passenger side (right) or the driver side (left)? I don't remeber having any problem with the top left bolt, but the top right bolt was tough.

As I recall, I tried just about every tool I have to get it off. Seems I used a ratcheting box end to get that off, but I might have also used a breaker bar.

Good luck.

Drivers side. Its not stuck, I can't get a tool on it. I've come up with one more idea before the bonfire, I'll try it tomorrow.

If it makes you feel any better you can read the shared misery several of us had going on the same Clutch Hell weekend last Fall. You won't feel so bad and might even reconsider the bonfire.

"Clutches on these things are an E-ticket to Hell,"

Actually this thread scares me. I'll be replacing my clutch in a month WIIT doing the LSD install and even picked up the offset flex-head ratchet and Snap On cheesehead sockets to try to minimize the pain.

I hope mine is little easier because I dug in and did rod berrings a year ago.

Just give it Hell and don't take no for an answer, damnit!

UPDATE: Got that (#&^$@% bolt out. Dropped the cross member about half an inch. The plastic thing holding the brake lines didn't make it though, the socket cracked it and it shattered.

Now I can't get the bell housing to drop. Not sure why yet, as the sensors and grounds are disconnected from the top. Just seems that I've not found the sweet spot for getting it down.

I'm assuming you've already pulled your clutch pivot shaft and have the bellhosing off of the guide pins. I had to rotate my bellhousing CCW 90 deg. looking from the back and pretty much yank it down. It will hang up on the pressure plate if you try and just slip it straight down. You have to get that friggin **** thing on the bellhousing away from the firewall. The early cars have only one sweet spot you can rotate the TT into when you slide it back before it hits the body...it gains you about another 3/4"...generous of them huh? Are we having fun yet?

BTW what combo of tools did you end up using to get the bolt, it would help others in the future I'm sure.
