Default wipers run when starting car

My '86 951 has started intermittently running the wipers when I start the car. I replaced the relay just in case that was it and no luck. Any idea what the problem is?

Sounds like you have the same little buggers running around the electricals as I have, only my wipers make a single pass when the head lights pop up.

This may be a stupid question, but are they on? All the way down is intermittant, up one level is off, up two levels is slow, three = medium, four = high. They confused the crap out of me when I first got my car. I hit the wiper switch by accident and couldn't turn it off for about 5 minutes...and I didn't have any wiper blades on there, so it was metal to glass contact! Arghh....

Just a thought.

I've tried 3 different intermittent relays in my car and I still only have one setting for the wipers....slow...

Check the grounds that are on the left and right frame rails...right behind the headlight buckets.

Thumbs up electrical gremlins

Check the steering column switches. I had a problem where the high beams were always on!! I removed the switches, drilled out the rivets, cleaned the contacts, reriveted everything and now all is well.

I've got one of those.
When I have head lights on and the right turn signal, the wipers fire. Not the left turn signal, just the right.
Flash to pass - wipers fire.
I have bought a brand new steering column switch and it still does it. Time to check the grounds.
