Default 944 vs. 911 Four-spoke steering wheel?

Is there any difference between the 944 and 911 four-spoke steering wheel? I noticed that the part numbers are different but i'm unable to see any real difference between them. Are they interchangeable?

I have an opportunity to get a 911 four spoke for very cheap so i'm hoping they are the same.

Also I noticed that the 928 uses a very similar four spoke steering wheel but that one is ALSO a different part number. Any idea about this one?

Thanks

Steve

I had always thought they were the same, but I can't confirm that.

So, if nothing else, consider this a "bump".

I am almost positive the difference is the pin that disengages the turn signals. It will bolt up just fine, but youll have to manually return the signals.

IIRC the 928 wheel is larger. 911 and 944 wheels should be the same diameter, as to pins or connections I do not know.

I remember reading somewhere that the hub is in different spots between the two cars (the 911 wheel sits higher?). Hardly cold fact, but just a rumor to investigate.

There were some options for the wheels. The 4 spoke came in 13.75 and 14 inch diameter. There was also a 1" hub extension option. I have the 13.75 extended wheel in my 86 and it's incredible. Such a great driving position. IMO, the 14"+ 944 wheels without hub extension suck, especially in the early cars.
