Thanks again guys. I totally agree with your recommendations. I'm not concerned with cosmetics and "nice to have" stuff. I just want to get the "necessary to run well" stuff fixed. In general, the car is in good shape and appears to be well taken care of. It's just that almost everything under the hood is screwed up one way or another. At least it seems that way.

The water pump and belts have already been replaced. Next on the list is the radiator, which I plan to do myself, and then the fuel problem. I can live without AC, but need a reliable motor and the things attached to it.

I guess I'll keep it for a while longer.

I feel the same way you do. I've owned my 86' for 4 years it's only been on the road about 2/3 the time. It's what you get with 20 year old car. I can say I've never had to fix anything twice. I have spent more money repairing it than I bought it for. But all things considered it's the most afordable great car to drop the kids off at school with.

 

I have had my 86 for going on 3 years. My first priority was getting it running reliably. Which I did, after I through a bunch of parts at it. Then after a couple of months, the clutch went. With the help of Rennlist and the people I've met here, I've been able to keep mine going. I haven't had to go back and redo any yet. Well, save for maintenance items, tune up, gear box oil, belts, filters.
