Default Timing Belt Roller dimensions

It's time for me to change my timing belt. I'm relplacing all the rollers and I am wondering what sizes i need for an 87 NA 944. I would find out myself by checking the car but, it is my daily driver and I can't afford to have it down while I wait for the parts. Thanks.

Just buy a belt and roller kit specific to the car. Try www.vertexauto.com

there's no "sizes" per se, they're just what they are. you need a timing tensioner roller, an timing idler roller, a balance tensioner roller, and a balance idler roller. i would also suggest replacing the waterpump if it has not been done recently. if you call paragon or any of the other online places they'll make sure you get the right parts.

Isn't one of the timing belt rollers different in size depending on whether he goes for the updated water pump or not?

Here's some general information on part numbers, etc:

http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/eng-04.htm

You could tell which water pump you have by taking the belt covers off (maybe the upper one is enough to see) and looking at the water pump to see if there is a belt guard. The belt guard is the shiny piece of metal above below step 3 in the balance shaft tensioning procedure here:

http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/eng-10.htm

If you are going from the old to updated water pump, you will need the update kit which includes the belt guard, you have to order the updated roller, and you have to modify the back (inside) timing belt cover. Zims sells the update kit (www.allzim.com), other vendors should as well.

You definitely need a pin spanner.

You definitely need the flywheel lock.

I used an 11" 90 degree angle pliers for the pin spanner.

I would recommend you change to the updated pump since the belt guard that goes with it does give your timing belt a better chance of surviving should it get too loose. Otherwise it's eay for opposing faces of the belt (with the teeth) to come in contact and shear each other off. And you know what that means.... As for tools, I don't think you can beat what this guy offers
