I'm sure the hatch being open significantly helps fill the car up with fumes. That said, even the car on ebay will be too full of fumes to drive without negative effects on your health.

I put a jetski, yes a jetski in the back of my GTI, like 4 years ago. Drove around 20 miles, and like you say, headache/dizzy, and very tired....
