When replacing the belts, do you need to replace those tentioners?
The 87 and later cars have a spring tensioner (see http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/eng-10.htm). I have not heard of replacing the tensioner with the belts. You might want to check out http://www.clarks-garage.com Most of the answers on belts you are seeking can be found there or at the 944 FAQ http://www.connact.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faq.html

How much is your insurance premium assuming that you're not getting full coverage?
I pay $10 more a month than my 94 nissan truck. But this is going to depend on where you live, driving habits (read: tickets) and insurance company.

The 924 and the 944 looks exactly the same (let's say 70%). Does it have similar problems like the 944 with the belts and all those other questions I asked?
The early 924 (1977-1982) is very nearly a completely different car than the 944. It was a joint venture between Porsche and VW, and shares many VW/Audi parts (like the engine and suspension). The 924S came out in 1987-88 and is mechanically a 944 except for the body and interior. Here is a short article on the 924 from my PCA chapter: http://az.pca.org/motor_pool/articles/porsche_924.htm

There are tensioner pulleys on all 944s as far as I know. I think there are some so called, automatic tensioners on later models (87+?). Everything I have read is that even these need to be properly tensioned and maintained.

As for replacement - it typically depends on mileage. Very high miles and it's a good idea to replace all pulleys and tensioners.

As for the 924 - that is an entirely different engine. It is a 2.0 liter Audi engine. To the best of my knowledge it is not an interference engine. It is also quite anemic by comparison to the 944 engine. You pretty much need the 924 turbo to get a car that moves. If you mean the 924S - then scratch what I just wrote. The 924S has the body style of the 924 but the engine and powertrain of the 944.

Wow, an Audi engine in a Porsche???
Don't the rear end of the 924 looks something similar to the 944?

For insurance, would they charge more because it's a sports car?
