Hi, I will keep this short. I just put the "S" motor back in my car a month or so ago. I had the Engine totally drained of coolant. I am trying to bleed it but I am having trouble. All it get is foam and air.... Never a bunch of coolant. I have run 3 gallons through it! Any suggestions? I have done the usual, full heat, front jacked up, This just baffles me!

OH YEA, It is running kinda warm, Goes right to the top white line after 3-5 min.

i get it up on the right side on a ramp, crack open the bleeder valve and have the cap off and the heater lever open and it does a good job of bleeding the system gravity feeding.

Granted, I've never worked on an "S" but I've found this to be a great way to evacuate air -

1. Crack the bleed screw.
2. Fill the coolant reservoir full
3. With the bleed screw open, compress the upper radiator hose.
4. With the hose still compressed, close the bleed screw. This creates a vacuum and sucks coolant into the system.
5. Repeat until coolant spurts out the bleed screw.

I always do the samething as headhunter described, but just a little different. I do it with the engine cold, and I put my thumb over the hole for the bleeder screw. Same thing, squeeze the upper hose as tight as possible, put your thumb over the hole for the bleeder screw to seal it up, let go of the hose, keep your thumb over the hole till are quits bubbling in the coolant reseivor. I can usually get all of the coolant into the system, without even starting the engine. I have done this several times, and it works great.

Do you have a part number? I searched Walmart and Prestone and couldn't find any matches.

Last time I pulled the little overflow hose off the resevoir tank and pressurized the system with my MityVac (with the bleed screw loosened, of course). Front raised on Rhino Ramps. Seemed to work.

how did you fill it?

fill the block with one gallon from the head gooseneck
put another gallon in through the expansion tank
run car, full heat, on an incline (nose up) and crack open the the bleed screw
the air should come right out
once the thermostat opens, top off at expansion tank.

Try this: Crack open the bleeder screw, remove the filler cap, clean off the filler opening, pinch off the overflow hose, then do 'mouth to mouth' on the coolant reservoir. Be prepared to close the bleed screw when you have a steady stream of coolant coming out. For stubborn trapped air, I'll hit the highway and drive over the 'wake up' strip on the shoulder. Make sure you have the heat on full, so the heat control valve will be open and allow any air that is trapped in the core to travel through the system. The 'theory' is that the cavitation action of the strip will dislodge trapped air and force it to a higher spot in the coolant system. (hopefully towards the bleeder screw) Then do the 'mouth to mouth' again, after the system has cooled. Works every time for me

Thanks guys. I have done many of these things mentioned aboue, But the car still runs warm.... All I get is white foam from the bleeder screw????? at first I did get a good blast of air.. Now just foam.

Did you say 3, that's THREE gallons? The capacity is two gallons, so I don't know where 1 gallon could possibly go. You may have a passenger compartment full of coolant. You have a leak somewhere. You need to find it!
