Transmission party Saturday 4/30
I finally got a trans for my boy's VW Golf.
Surgery starts on Saturday. Any local SOW types are welcome. BYOB.
I suppose since I don't have a Porsche anymore, I'm off topic. Oh well, I'll report me to me later.

Just did it Wednesday. I'd help ya out if I were closer...but I have three tips for you (only things that gave me problems):
1) Either get a transmission jack or use blocks of wood to balance the transmission on a jack. If you go the blocks of wood way you need 1 2x4 in the front and 2 2x4's in the back to make it sit level when it's up in the air. It's still not perfect, but it'll get you close enough to get it mounted.
2) You'll probably have to lift up on the rear of the torque tube to get it to mate right. This kinda threw me for a loop as mine wasn't lineing up right & I couldn't figure out why my new transmission was sitting 1" higher than the old one did. If you place a 1x3" between the torque tube & the cross member there it should help relieve you while you're lining things up
3) With the driveshaft coupler....once you get it close, slide it back & forth as you put the bolts in it. There is only one position in which both bolts will thread in without stripping. You'll know when you hit this spot because BOTH bolts will thread in EASY...as in nearly 0 resistance. If you need to put a wrench on it before the mating surfaces meet....STOP...you're stripping the bolts on the driveshaft splines. Ask me & the three bolts it took me to figure this out if you need to know how I know.

Scootin, no torque tube here. this is a 97 VW Golf. I can lift this trans with one hand.
Chris, that looks MAHVELOUS! Actually it looks like Jason's/Fishey's 924.
Excellent score.

Pete,
I now have some un-planned work I have to do on the 944 Saturday morning, so I'm probably not going to make it. When are you getting started?

Bump for the weekend.
If anyone is coming over, I'll be gettin' started Saturday around 11:00am.
I'm going to start pulling the old trans tonight.

That's ok. I called in sick today and got the old trans out. It wasn't too bad of a job but I am tired. I hope I'm not to sore tomorrow so I can get the new one in.

good luck on the installation!! did you finally get it from the vortex guy or you had to buy another one? Installing VW trannies is usually an easy job, everything should go smoothly.
