Which Motor Mounts, 951? Hi,
I need motor mounts for a "89" 951. I spoke with a dealer mechanic at the swapfest yesterday and he felt there weren't any which were great. He told me the factory has attempted over the years to change the fluid in them with different substances (green, yellow , Red) so they last longer, but they had little success. He also thought there were solid ones available, but couldn't elaborate? Are the OEM ones the way to go or are the after market ones coming from the same factory? My local shop has quoted me 4 hours of labor ($360.00) plus tax and parts totaling $674.00 Help...need info to make correct decision.
Thanks

OEM is the way to go, dont get the aftermarket one, POS,, ,the aftermarket mounts can go for about $50 each but dont last more than 5k miles, the oem , made by mealy, cortecogo , for about $100 each, porsche factory doesnt make mounts, all the rubber seal and hunderds of parts are farmed out , the oem you get at the dealer are the same , , but porsche bags them and has the Letter engraved on the metal.
the porsche shop looks like he wants to charge you about $150 per mount, way to pricey, and 360 for the labor, not bad, for the labor, but each shop has theyre own hourly rate, mounts are about 4 hour process, so hes probably charging around 90 an hour, not bad, but not cheap,
the solid mounts are mainly for race, though can be used in the street, but be careful because these mounts will rattle at idle,I wouldnt put them on a street car,but if you can deal with the vibrations,it wont kill you.
hope this help
