It is basically a double wishbone system. Instead of having 2 control arms, you have 2 links on top and 2 links on the bottom of the spindle. Therefore, you have a larger, or more forgiving, range of motion, which allows you to have a stiff, but very compliant suspension.
Unlike the 944's stone-age suspension, the double wishbone doesn't need insane spring rates to keep the car from leaning in corners. This is because it alters the suspension geometry as you turn the wheel, and provides a nearly infinite range of adjustability.
