Hey Pete, Joyce is in Tampa right now. I probably should have gone with her so I could KNOCK SOME SENSE INTO YOUR HEAD! Sounds like a great deal - buy it.

I have owned a 3 911's and 4 944's along with 1 968. I think you have a tough decision. If you could keep the 944 and buy the 911 it would be nice. To me they are completely different cars and you have to drive the 911 and see what you think.

Damn, I'm glad I don't live there! Hey, you know anyone who wants to buy a clean N/A 944 around you? I'm only asking $10k!

944 n/a's are good - for the cheap price you can acquire them for. IMO, the 911 is a much superior car, but very different.

Regardless of what anyone says, drive the car. If you like it - buy it.

Oh, and Canadian porsche prices are REDICULOUS. Is this a trend with other sports cars too?

No you aren't! This is definately Gods country!
I know lots of people who are envious of my 21y.o. 944. Most people here have never even seen one, let alone driven one! Make an offer, you pay postage!!!!! LOL
The car prices are inflated because of the rarity of the marque!
I believe that we are now selling sports cars to the USA. The Holden Monaro is selling over there as a ? chevrolat?
Check out the V8 Supercars on google. Ford vs Holden (GM) This is awesome racing and everbody here can identify with it.

I just paid $Aus11500 for my 84 944. Really good condition. Perfect condition would go for about $18-19k.

I can't wait to visit. We are coming once my wife finishes university (part-time student - works full-time). God help y'all. I've heard a couple of different reports that us Yanks aren't exactly appreciated there these days though.

It's being sold as the Pontiac GTO. GM is once again ripping off Ferrari.

Oh yeah. Our racing channel here stateside used to carry the races quite a bit during the season. They carried them this past season, but instead of being on the tube several times, each race was carried once and then at an odd time. Bloody irritating. I love the V8 Supercar races. In fact, I'd like to go to a race when we visit.

That's not possible, it is one or the other. I hope to see the car in the next few days...more to follow.

It's a tough call, but I can sympathise.

I passed up inhereting my father's '86 911 so that I could keep my 944. This isn't because I think my 944 is superior or anything, but purely because of sentimental reasons. And because of that, it would be hard to replace it with anything!

That said, if I do end up having to replace it, it'll be with a 911...

So, like what was already mentioned, drive it and see if you'd be happy with it over the 944.

BB.

You all have been tremendously helpful...I posted a similar note on the 911 board, and got 4 responses (all positive I might add). We are working the details to get a test drive, and I will bring my camera. This is not going to be an easy decision.

Pete,
Why sell the 944? Is it a space or money issue? I would think to hang on to the 944 if at all possible (storage etc) since you have so much into it.

I would check too about the upgrades to the 911. IIRC there are cam chain tensioners, carbs and a anti backfire arrestor that are usually upgraded on the early cars. Or something like that....

Plus, rust...... A big problem on some of them. Check the floor pans, under the door sills and the trunk (remember, it's in the front )

Sounds like a great opportunity.

As much as I would like to have one, I am glad I don't have to make that decision.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do....

James
The 944 would have to go to facilitate the purchase of the 911. Also the garage is full, and I don't want cars on the driveway.
