theedge, i ordered the Autothroity one before i bought the 944Racing linkage because it had the extra adjustability while not being much more expensive. I got an email a few hours later saying they were on "indefinite backorder". Basically they stopped making them. As Mike said above me, Paragon still sells the Weltmeister one which has the same adjustability, just its a little more expensive. From what i have read, the 944Racing and Speed6 linkages (Which are the same i believe) basically changes throws to equal the Weltmeister and Autothority on the shortest settings.

If you have a sloppy shifter (like me), just replace the factory lever and ball cup bushing, it's about $45 for both. A KCWS member did it at the last wrenching party we had, it was amazing the difference it made. Nice, tight, well defined shift gates.

In case anyone is interested, the short shift kit goes well with a shortened shift lever. I cut about an inch off the top end of the lever and then re-notched it with a file so the spring clip goes back on there. So it still has the stock leather and rubber bushings between the shift **** and the lever.

Did you use the stock ****? If so how did you shorten the shift ****. i thought it was just the right length for a stock shift lever. I was looking into doing this. Let me know please.

Neon, the **** is stock as is the leather apron. If you pull up the apron and take a look, there is a clip under there that keeps the shift **** on the lever. Remove that clip and then you can slide the whole shift ****/leather apron assembly off. You will see that the part of the shift lever where the **** mounts is of simple rectangular cross section. As I recall, I cut about an inch off the top with a hack saw, cleaned up the cut edge with a file, and then cut new notches in the lever where the clip will move down to. I'll post some pix but it will have to wait for a couple days as I'm traveling to Hershey tomorrow.

Here are the promised photos of the shortened shift lever.

After taking a close look at the bottom end of the shift **** (pix 2 and 3), it looks like I may have cut some of it down and then had to cut a new slot in there for the clip. Also note the relieved area in pic 3 where the shift rod was too close to the **** skirt. I did this at least 10 years ago so my memory is sketchy...

I really don't even consider that a short shifter, unless that pic makes it look taller than it really is. Mine on my 951 barely cleared the boot when it (the boot) was fully compressed down. See below:

Wow that is a SHORT shifter... Were you able to get enough leverage with that?

Does anyone have any more information on the 944 racing one? Recommendations?

Also, getting the new plastic socket for the ball and a new shifter altogether helps some (I have done this), but it ain't exactly a Hurst. I wish our shifts were as tight as a Z28 or Trans Am. The amount of slop when in gear is still ridiculous.

It was JUST enough to grab onto and shift comfortably. I was actually quicker on the shifter than the pressure plate was on the return. The ball design was definately needed to grab from the top and shift effectively.
