That would be sweet. Or maybe we can get some people to finally finish Dmitry's 924 race car. With a euro-spec engine and fiberglass body panels, it wont have a problem making up the .5 liter difference.

I'm out of town and I have no idea what you guys are planning -- but it sounds fun, especially if there are hookers involved. Count me in whatever is!

"I'm really not looking for anything out of it other than some good times, "

I think we should turn the car into an amusement-park ride and charge to take people out for fun. Take off the hatch and put two seats facing backwards like on the Subaru Brats so they can get front-row seats to the racing action!!!

I think if we are going to have a spec car, it by definition should be competitive. That requires effort on any driver to get their racing license (required) and responsibility to any damaged parts on the community car. I am already building a spec car so this will be an addition. You guys can throw out ideas and lets get something going.

Does this mean I actually have to drop the four grand and do the Skip Barber school or something? Ugh.

You can get a license in NASA doing HPDE events or from an SCCA licensing school (2 days required last time I checked) with any car that meets the safety specs.

A community car would be ideal for helping people get their racing license without them having to have a dedicated track car.

Let's see, we have the OTC coming up in the summer and the 25 hr enduro at the end of the year. Better get wrenching!!!

What class is Dmitry building up his race car for?

He's not building it. He bought it already race prepped. Fiberglass widebody, and full race suspension with adjustable coilovers and swaybars, 16x8&9 BBS.

Dmitry rebuilt the engine, brakes, etc in euro spec and the whole interior is completely stripped and body has been 1/2 prepped for paint.

He's just terrible with prioritizing his time so the car has been sitting 1/2 finished for a while.

To say the least, we can rent out the track for a day and have our own event. Danno and I have been talking about it for a while and never got it off the ground. We can do time trials or even just have track time to drive our car, which does not require any type of license other than a helmet and tech inspection of your car last time I was out there.

Track rentals on weekdays are pretty cheap. If we get about 30 people, it would end up being about $200 each for all day. That's like 3-4 hours of track time each! You'll be so tired, you won't be able to drive home because your arms will ache. You'll end up sleeping in your car at the track!!!

well, if you know some people who are currently racing NASA and they'll vouch for you, you can get some checkout laps with an instructor and get checked off for your license pretty quickly...

Hey Julie,

Does this mean you may be a grid girl for this team? Looks like we may get to post more pics in the Grid Girls thread!

Well couple, points.

1) Track rental. Corner Workers? Safety vehicles? Without these I would not attend any track day.

2) Don't jump into racing before you are ready. I have seen a few folks do this. Some times it results in them being quite slow (10 seconds off the pace) and other times multiple wrecked cars. My advice is take slow and only race when you are 100% comfortable on the track. Speed is not that important, but you do need to feel comfortable in the track driving thing since in racing actual track driving is secondary to the racing.

The fortunate thing is we have enough spec racers and club racers around here who can also instruct and probably will be interested in the track time to tune their cars. There were always safety vehicles and corner workers when I attended these "rented track" events so its not one of those "you are on your own" type of deals. There is too much liability for these tracks that they will make sure you have what it takes to do it right. There are tech inspections for the vehicles tracked and I am sure other details will have to be worked out which will be worked out if we have an event like this.

Glad to hear that Lego.

Tech inspection is not big deal really. As long as you have at least one guy who know how to work on these cars and what to look for your are fine. As for instruction... well it really depends on the level of drivers you have.

PS.. you can also simply sign up for a NASA DE day too. Cost is less per person and you get plenty of track time. Also the 944-spec racers will be there too.
