dash cracks
ok anyone know how to stop the dash cracks from getting bigger i see as my turbo s comes out of winter storage the dash has continued to crack is many places some small and some larger then in the fall when i put it away. i tried that vinyl repair kit with the sample of grain to match the dash. what a waste of money looks worse now then before i started. so rennlisters what is the best way to stop the current ones and fill/hide the new ones. no i don't want to replace the dash, nor do i want those dash covers. any thing else out there someone has tried with some sucess i would give a try.
thanks

I went the dash cover route and it actually looks pretty good, alot cheaper then replacing the whole thing to. I spent about half a year trying different things to stop/repiar the damage too and nothing i found worked.

I have the custom molded plastic dash cover from Coverlay.....I bugs me that it is a cover but you can't tell it is (unless you know where to look like below the gauges)...cheap but it works well.....better than the dash carpet though.....JMO....

I believe that it is an air vent for when the system is in recrculate however i just have the sensors for my alarm system in it. It pops right out. I also have the Coverlay and can only really tell its a cover if you look really close.

For the most part, the dash just "dries out"... I would think that if you just kept it hydrated and moist the progression would slow quite a bit!

That grill in the center is a speaker grill for no speaker. It's a leftover from the 924 which did indeed have a speaker there.
Many people have used it for other things. I was making a two gauge pod for it for my race car, but the rollcage cuts right through the center of it so that wasn't going to work. For most cars I think a gauge pod would be great, but the space back there isn't the best either.

I've been following this thread closely because Bruce has some serious cracks (tho no lethal)
I had the local vinyl/leather repair guy come over a few days ago to give me a quote/prognosis.
He said:
1. The cracks are non-repairable
2. The only solution is to take the dash out and send to Brisbane and get a new dash moulded (not an option as this is my daily driver. Maybe an option in Sept when i'm OS for a month)
3. A dash mat will not help, but rather exacerbate the problem
4.Stop using Armorall. It does not soak in and only screws up the foam underneath.
5. Use a damp cloth + sunlight soap (pure soap) to clean vynal(?) and polish off
As an aside, he guessed Bruce was a 92 model because of condition. The guy at the Raw materials shop guessed 95.
