Default "Thumping" from right front

My car has developed a "thumping" noise from the right front tire area. Came on quite suddenly. Sounds like a retread coming off and hitting the fender well liner.

Tires look good.

Found the inner sway bar bushing had given up the ghost. Though that was the prioblem. To check it out, I pulled the bracket that holds the bushing. No change, perhaps even a little worse noise.

It happens at all speeds, and is very consistent, almost once every revolution of the tire.

Does the sway bar flex "that" much?

Any thoughts......

I was having the same problem and a brake pad retaining pin had come loose. You might want to check that...

Good thought.

Just pulled the wheels off. No missing brake parts, spins freely.

James, does it get louder as you speed up?

Flat spot on your tire, caused by locking up the brakes and sliding.

To see how bad it its, jack up the offending wheel until it is about a quarter inch off the ground. Slowly rotate the wheel and see the gap between the ground and the tire change.

Oh yeah, I forgot, I was in drifting contest the other night.....

No, really, it is like you had stapled a foot long piece of a fan belt to the tire. Every time it comes around "whoompp"

Well, sometimes its hard to tell where the sound is coming from, is it possible that one of your C.V.s in the back has taken a dump on you?

Tire tread seperation is sometimes hard to spot -- until it comes off.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts
and/or cam chain and tensioner?

If it were the tire it would increase in frequency as the speed increased. Simple to check for, take the wheel off and roll it. If it is making that much noise and is a tire ANYONE should be able to see it.

James, I meant to tell you over the phone to swap your front tires L/R. See if the thump moves to the LF.

update.....

OK, I wrapped a rag around the front sway bar and put it back into the bracket. It's tight, no way it can move.

S L O W L Y go down the street. WUMP...WUMP...

I lean out the door, Damn, I think IT IS A CV......left rear...(can I be more off than opposite sides and ends)

Got her up on stands, pulled the wheels....now what.... left side seems to have a little more play than the right. As in, I can rotate the brake rotor/axle about a 1/4 inch before it moves the half shaft.

It's unusual if a CV makes a thump at all speeds but yours does sound a bit worn. Some people have had good luck swapping axles from side to side as a temporary fix until a replacement axle is purchased. The wear pattern on the CV is reversed and you will get a fresh bite pattern on meshing parts. This is not a cure but it will buy you quite a few miles if you are tight on funds. Just a thought.
