I just put a set of Fuzion's on my car last night for ~$420 from a firestone shop. Granted it'd be cheaper to buy them online, but with shipping and mounting them, the cost doesn't work as well. Too new to say how they'll perform compared to the yoko's that were on there. The yokos were pretty much shot when I got the car though.

I guess I'll just track them this summer and wear them out hehe..

conclusion: don't get Yokohama AVID V4s if u want handling. Besides, I don't think I gained that much in terms of comfort.
isn't the V4S an "all season performance tire" - my best advice is to avoid those as much as possible - the grip suffrs becuase they are made for winter, rain, etc.

Checked into the Bridegestone RE-950 and they are really nice. Spoke to them at tirerack and they said if you are doing any autocrossing you should stay away from them. they said being an all season tire the compound will start to fall apart when it gets too hot. For the size I have (215/60-15) they only recommended the Yokohama AVS es100.

I was also told by another reliable source that the Kumho ECSTA 711 are graet tires and very cheap. Unfortunatley they don't come in my size. Can i put any other size on my 15" wheels? I have 225/60-15 now and was told they are too tall. How about 225/55-15?

I wouldnt auto cross on a 215/60R15 in ANY compound. Sidewall is really tall and virtually nothing is going to be good for that.

Go to a 225/50R15 and get something more UHP if you are going to auto X on them.

I have to ask though, are you going to auto-x enough for that to make your tire decision for you? If so buy a separate set of wheels and tires. If you are only going to do it a few times a year (maybe) then go with the best tire available. FWIW, the ES100 wears rapidly and anyone who told you the Kumho's were good tires has no clue what they are talking about.

Not really going to be doing a lot of autocrossing. Going to the auto-x school in a few weeks adn i hear it is addicting. HOwever, i do need tires. Can you recommend any others?

Would 225/50-25 be too short? How would they effect speed and handling.

My car hasn't seen rain in about a year now. She loves her corner in the garage though :-)

She gets all kinds of exercise when it's sunny out on weekends or when the VW is getting worked on!

225/50R15 gives a little bit shorter gearing and better acceleration. Think about getting a second set of wheels, use your smallest set for auto-X as it keeps the cost down.

What band tire would you recommend in this size? Is this size an ok alternative to the stock 215/60-15 size? How would this effect the speed/odometer? I know there was a site to calculate this but I can't find it.

It will be off a little but nothing too dramatic, it should read high at any rate. If money is not an issue the S-03 is mighty good in that size.

And if money is an issue?

Also would there be any downside to using this size for everyday driving. Can't affort 2 sets now?

No, you could use them everyday. Depends, everyone has their preference.

The ES100 is pretty good for the lower budgets, the Fuzion ZRi is good for a low budget, just stay WAY AWAY from the Kumho products.

I concur with the advice about Kumho.. I've got some kumho ecsta asx "All Season High Performance" Decent traction in rain, but not that impressive cornering response and handling... Also, if you're planning on doing any autocrossing especially, or anything that burns rubber, stay away from these as mentioned before.. I've had them for about 9k miles, and I already almost need new rear tires.

No Fusion ZR-1 in my size. Looks like it would have to be the ES100. And the 225/50-15 are definately much better than the 215/60-15?

Yes, they are better for performance. I should know that about ZRi, I only work for the people how make them...DOH!! Even I get forgetful.

BTW, there is a 100 dollar rebate on the S-03 which should make them pretty close to the ES100.
