Default Whats a decent 931 worth?

A computer friend of mine that also lives in ohio seen a 924 turbo for sale locally. He went to check it out but no-one was home and no info on the car. I got the vin # and a picture. Ultimatly what i'm looking for is another car to do auto-x with. If i can get this one decently cheap i might pick it up.

Here is a pic he sent me:

The VIN on it is: WP0AA0938BN150552

He had also spotted a 928 for me, but they want to much for it methinks $7950.

what year? It's got crappy paint, I'm going to assume it has a ratty interior. If it has a good engine that isn't burning a whole lot of oil, a good tranny that has no crappy syncro's I'd say about $1.5-$2k.

Why not get a regular 944 with equal hp and no lag? Also, reliability is very questionable on 931s and they need constant turbo rebuilds.

Just out of curiosity have you ever owned a 931? If not what are your claims based on? In my experience once sorted out a 931 is just as reliable as a 944 and can be boosted to smoke the hell out of a 2.5L 944NA. Turbo rebuilds need to be done about every 100K miles but there is no reason you can't make an adapter plate and upgrade to a more modern turbo that doesn't need as much attention.

Wes my estimate was just a rough ball park. You have very little information to work with so it makes it kind of hard to get a good price on it. Of course in the end it all comes down to what the seller will take. It can't hurt to make an offer.

Very true, I wanted to get a base estimate so I have something to work off of.

Ive heard horror stories of turbo rebuilds every 30k...

Any car can be reliable once "well sorted." Often times, it takes a bit of money, which Wes doesn't have, to get there.

Good luck.

Serge,
The $1000 is a inital cost of the car. Thats all I want to spend. I'm hoping I can find one (944-924) with a good running engine. The rest will come later.

Well i got an email back from my friend. He gave me the sellers info and his wife thinks he's asking $1500 for it. I'm going to give the guy a call and see what kind of negotiating I can do.

I think the 931 is a hella cool car.

But, you could find a 944 or 924S in need of some luvin' for that money, and they would be more competitive in their respective auto-x classifications. Just my two cents.

I'd take a running 931 for $1000
Then again, I have a thing for 924's, and the turbo just adds to it.

Here's the most recent price guide from Excellence magazine for the 931.

Note, the prices in these Excellence tables always seem a bit high, but it gives a rough idea...

According to that table, this car is a collectible. Theyve appreciated 35-40% since 2000 if thats accurate (which I dont think it is).
