Default oil on spark plugs

Checked my spark plugs today and they were all covered in oil. Why is there oil on my spark plugs? Could an engine flooded with gas cause this?

hey...I noticed the same thing yesterday...one of my plugs had a lot of oil on it...the others did not...

Was wondering if this meant anything....

Usually it either means blow by or valve floating.

Blow by is when the oil sneaks past the piston rings from wear.

Valve floating is when the valve guide seals start to wear and allow
oil into the combustion chamber.

Either of these are normal with older cars. I just replaced the head
on my 91 jetta GLI for the same thing.. usually noticeable by
smoke coming out of the tailpipe. Can sometimes go away after
start up but will eventually become chronic. Check your compression
to verify if the seals or rings are letting go.

P.S. occasionally. in very rare cases you may get oil through the intake through
the breather valve.. but this is pretty rare as it takes quite a bit of oil to actually
show up on plugs and it usually takes out mass air flow sensors or clogs up the
throttle body.

hey....thanks....My limited understanding actually includes these two...

Was hoping someone would say...nah...don't worry about it...

My engine has only 76k even though she has sat a lot...just had the valve cover gaskets done...so kinda weirded out by this....I suppose i can check it and see if it is occuring all the time....

Oil was only on one spark plug...compression test souds in order...

Thanks
