sunroof stuck up
not stuck up like a snobby schoolgirl, I mean stuck in the up position.
this has been happening on a number of occasions recently and after a few dozen times of flippng the switch it goes down but today it wants to play hard ball. i can hear a "click" near the sunroof when I flip the down switch, but nothing happens.
so whats the procedure again to manually crank it down. I forget but I believe there is one. I cant wash the car until I get it down again.
Gracios.

Turn that!
There is a little plastic nipple-looking thingie you take off. It just pops off in your hand. Take a socket wrench and turn it. I forget which direction...

Are you drinking beer? That always helps.
It may not help fix the problem, but after pondering over it long enough (with enough beers) you stop careing...

can you at least find the motor? it's there somewhere!. if you can find that, I think its the double nutted nut (if that makes sense) you need to turn. If you can't see that, you must have forgotten to feed the sunroof mice.....

Find the motor and you can't miss it - it is the double jamb nut as Mike noted. PO's may not have put all the plastic covering back on as that is sort of a pain if you do it often.
While there are a lot of possible reasons for this electrical retraction to fail, like the micro switch in the center forward edge of the roof the sunroof mates up to, it could very well be the sunroof relay in the fuse/relay box. You have an 86 and it is time for that to crap out. That is an expensive little sucker new - something like $120. See if someone has a working used one you can buy for 10 or 20 bucks. And make sure the replacement is the correct one for your car. Read the part number on the old. There were at least 2 different relays used on the various years.

UD,
It's an '86 so it looks a little different than the one in the picture. It's in the same place but it should have a small flat silver metal wrench attached to the sunroof motor. That wrench fits perfectly on a nut again attached to the motor. If I remember correctly the nut is pretty small like a 8mm or so. Crank on that bad boy in either direction until you see the top going down. There's only a few nuts down there, including yourself, and most that you can see mount the motor to the car. The one in the middle and most obvious is the one you want.
If I had my car here I'd snap a pic. If you need one I can get a picture to you tomorrow afternoon when the car is back in it's stable.
