Default Odometer Not Working

My car wants to maintain eternal youth. The odometer stopped working. The gears are fine. What else should I check?

Are you sure the gears are fine? I thought the same thing when I looked at mine, no teeth were missing. But I couldn't tell how far they were worn down until I had a new gear next to the old one...the difference was night and day!

The gear on mine had slipped over to the side and lost contact with the other gear. It wasnt broken but it wasnt working either. I moved it back into place, but after I drove the car a few miles it must have moved again or broke because the odometer stopped working again.

The geartrain in mine began to bind a few months after I replaced the broken gear... there is a problem with the alignment which I'll have to work out. It runs for 100-300 miles and then just quits when the gears bind up.

Just finished changing the odo gear in mine about 30 min ago. My gear was not broken, but the smaller inside part of the old gear was completly worn... If you have the odometer in your hands and spin the orange (old gear) it should be obvious to what is wrong. Unless you dissassembled the numbers.... Then your screwed. Try this:

make sure to lube the gears to prevent binding......

I took the speedo apart to check the gears. They appear fine. It is a RENNBAY gear from a few years ago. I think the problem might be electrical. I cleaned the contacts and will put it back together tomorrow.

I put the cluster back in, and the odo worked for 54.2 miles and stopped again. Not sure what is going on, although I still suspect connections. Dammit.
