Default Torque tube from the front?

Hi Everyone,

I am slowly moving along with my 944 S project. The engine is out and I'm in the middle of re-building it, and in-between, while waiting for machine shop turn around etc. I have been taking apart the rest of the front end so I can re-paint the engine compartment, firewall and forward half of the under-body. I would like to know if it is possible to remove the torque tube without disturbing (much) of the rear suspension and transmission? I know normally the transmission is removed first and then the torque tube, but can I do it backwards?

Thanks!

The short answer? Nope.

The long answer: The torsion bar carrier is almost directly against the body of the car and therefore the rear bellhousing wouldn't be able to clear if you were to pull it ou the front. The least intrusive way I've seen is to tilt the torsion bar carrier and slide the torque tube out from the side of the car.

on top of all that there are hooks on the TT and torsion bar taht will only allow you to move it like 5 or 6" each way.

Hey, thanks for the feedback everyone.

It seems it may not be such a great idea. I suppose I will have to wait until I take the back of the chassis apart.

I appreciate the help.
