Default Trans compatability

So I know that 85 and older trans will physically fit in 86 + cars and that the speedometer drive is different. But, can they be 'made' to fit? I.E. can a hub sensor be added to a later car?

After hours of fruitless searching, is ther a specific webpage that completely describes the differences between early 944, later 944's and turbo trans?

If you can get your hands on a set of factory shop manuals, they describe them in pretty good detail. You would have to figure out the calibration of the sensor on the late cars. I had the same problem for a while, I had a early tranny in a late car.
