The owners of that car are either clods, or have a clod for a mechanic. Clutches should easily last 100k miles if you know how to drive, even a rubber one.

Sounds like he has some boost issues, and these can be devilish to trace and fix. Turning wrenchs is one thing, but fixing Turbo problems is quite another.

 

my friends uncle is the main reason for the clutches. the reason i think the clutch may be bad is that he took it to the shop around here and they said they saw peices of spring in the fluid. i dont really know what that means but i was thinking that maybe it was from a prior clutch and they just handnt cleaned the fluid out completely. im gonna go and try to take a look at it this weekend. also this clutch thats in it probably only has 20k on it but when it was replaced he didnt replace the flywheel. if i went in and replaced the flywheel could i use the existing clutch again. i dont really want to spend 600 bucks or more on a clutch if this one is fine.

on the hickup, ill check out some vacume lines and see if any are leaking. i do know for a face the car needs new plugs, wires and distributor cap and rotor.

 

my friend drives the car like a baby so i know he isnt the reason for the clutches going bad, its his clod uncle that mistook the car for a camaro or mustang for a few hours. anyways, do you think the car is a deal for 1500 bucks.

 

Either that is an insane deal, or this car has some SERIOUS issues. I have seen turbos with blown engines and faded paint sell for more than that......

 

The factory clutch is the rubber center, there is a updated spring center clutch for the S2.

I don't understand the spring pieces in the fluid part... There is no fluid (or there shouldn't be) around the clutch.

Where are you having this serviced? If it's not at a good porsche shop then don't let them touch the car. I've seen what regular mechanics (not familiar with 944s) do to these cars, and trust me, it's not pretty. These are NOT american cars, they are Porsches, and YES THEY ARE DIFFERENT. The tolerances and specifications to do things are VERY tight and important to follow properly. Just slapping something on is NOT going to make the car work. Get it to a proper Porsche mechanic (ask for references from the people here on the Rennlist for good shops in your area) and go to them!

i believe the mechanic that worked on the car is porsche certified. yes this is a good deal. my friend just wants some money to put down on a new bike, and he is tired of looking at the porsche. i think i will try to talk to him and get it pretty soon.

 

Personally, I'd be weary of a 951 that only got 50K on 2 clutches... I mean, how freakin hard do you have to be on the car to do that? My car was raced for 6 years... 180K ORIGINAL clutch! :O

 

Is this some sort of April fools thing? I have this same kind of conversation everytime my 10 year old neighbor walks over to chat....;]
