In most broken belt cases you can buy and lap in new valves. Including head gaskets you can get it running again for less than $400. Yes that includes the new belt you should have put on a few thousand miles before.

Remember: A badly tensioned NEW belt is better than the tired old belt.

Early cars are awesome. The parts are far less expensive than the later ones and they're a lot simpler to work on, and they're lighter. I think on my early car I've only had stuff that would be common to early and later year cars need replacing (a/c compressor, dash, seats, door checks, hatch & hood pistons, etc.)

Photos please? You said that the car has brown and maroon interior? I am very interested in photos... Have you found the options label in the trunk yet if so what are the options on the car. It can sometimes be found in the owners manual as well.

The tow truck is set up to bring the car to me on Friday. I hope to get the car cleaned and photoed this weekend.
I did not bring the book that has the code label to work with me. I got both the maint book and the owners manual with the car.

Patrick, what I am interested in is the maroon interior. The dash and surrounding trim should be brown, seats should be brown if original. Is the carpet brown maybe faded to maroon or is it maroon/burgandy? I found Burgandy carpet in my '83 and I was wondering if I was the only one.

The light was fadding last night, but i think the carpet was brown, the seats were maroon leather with some fabric. You could be right about the dash being brown, hard to tell with pollen, dust, shade, and fadding light. I looked on the outside first, should have looked inside first.

Jaycm,

Leaking hatch, leaking battery tray, clogged sun roof drains. There are drain holes under the carpet as well if the car was in a small pond or lake that could do it too.

Michael
You were correct the entire interior is some color of brown. My first thoughts after getting the car off the ground and cleaning it out are to part it. The work required to bring it back may not be worth it. This is what I have found so far.
1. no fluids in the car at all
2. 2 rear lug nut studs very damaged
3. rust in the bat box
4. Paint on the hood and sun roof very bad
5. valence dammaged and paint is in bad shape
I have a list of parts that would go on my '87, is their any others interested in parts. (I joined as a member yesterday)
I will get pics up in a few.

Maybe the radio, the fuel line from the tank to the filter, and one or two other things, right Patrick? Nothing major though.
You still gonna see what early offset wheels look like on yours?

We want pics, and you might want to PM John the admin about your little member thing above your avatar (or lack thereof), so you don't get flamed when you start to part it out....Still thinking about offering it up as a whole car here, so someone can keep an early one alive? Anyone?

A little late in the thread.
You guys are awesome!.....my 83' (which has remained in the family) is like the girl next door, not real attractive but she has it where it counts!!! At 83k and forged rods, she's a Daddy's girl. After some 225, 245/16's and a four wheel alignment...she's a dream.
