Here are pictures of the 89 my brother bought in September to replace the 84 he sold to Scott (Skoot1027). Guess he is addicted. Linnen exterior with blue interior, split rear seat, 10 speakers, all original paint. Now we both have 89s. 
Best of all the seller was a pleasure to deal with. He posted the ad Saturday, I called an hour after it was uploaded, went to see it sunday. He works a few blocks from us and we went home with him, gave him the $$ and drove it home.
His 84 bought in June 01 (the one he sold to scott with 110k in aug 04) was a time capsule too. it had 32k miles, was stored in a heated garage all its life next to the guys collection of cars and boats. That's a whole nutha story for a nutha day. It had the Koni suspension, but didnt have LSD.
The moral of this thread is there are mint 944s out there. Don't settle for a dog. The more expensive mint car will probably be cheaper in the long run.

plus old timing belt. the seller is obviously not a 944 guru like us since he didnt highlight the wheels, or the option code sticker, and didnt change the belts. Is that a 7k car if it has LSD and needs belts?

Fear not, the car has been scheduled for a fresh set of belts early next week. In the meantime, she's tucked away in his garage.
I agree with the comments above... Depending on your objectives, it's better to pay more up front and get a nice example, than pay less and get a project. Once you start restoration, the receipts begin to mount. I've got more than $10k in my high-mileage NA 944 and it will NEVER be as nice as this one.
They may do some detailing this weekend. If so, I'll bring over my camera and snap some more pics.

Yeah, there's low mileage ones to be had out there still. I bought my black 951 in Sept 2003 with just over 23K miles on it. I trailered it home, I was so afraid of the belts breaking. As another person noted, mine still has the original Pirelli Cintaurato tires on it ( with no visible cracking. I know, I know, they're still 18 yr old tires...). The belts and water pump were done last year, and the mechanic who did the belts said he loved working on, as nothing had been touched before. She gets new tires next year, and then I can finally DRIVE it like she was meant to be, instead of short, low-speed trips.
I still crack up when someone jumps in with a comment about how it is better to buy a high-mileage, but well maintained 944, than it is to buy a low-mileage garage queen. And yet we all drool when a low-mileage, pristine example surfaces every now and then... Gimme that garage queen any day!
