Default 16V Tensioner POLL

Hi Guys/Gals, I am not too sure if this has been done before. But to all of those who have had a chain tensioner fail, Or know someone who has (who will not post here) Which part on the tensioner failed?

Photo "borrowed" from rennlister joseph mitro.

I've always heard of the top pad itself crumbling and slipping off the tensioner, allowing the chain to lock up on it.

Sorry you learned the hard way. First thing I did when I bought my S2 was replace the entire tensioner assembly.

Good peace of mind for the past 6 years.

Mine didn't fail, but the top pad was definitely a lot more worn than the bottom one.

Are S2's any less prone to this?

My old tensioner is a paper weight on my desk, thankfully it's in one piece and so is it's replacement.

Car's only done 52K miles though.

Adding to car_slave : do 928's let go as well?
