Default Shift **** Wobble - fixed!

I got tired of wobbly shift ***** - every aftermarket shift **** you buy comes with a selection of little rubber pieces of junk that are supposed to tighten up the slop between your shifter and their ****.

They don't work worth a damn...

How are you supposed to do some serious performance driving (and shifting) with a loose gearshift ****?

I made these:

They fit all Porsche 968, 944, 951, 924

Great idea!! Is there some other piece that is missing? How does the sleeve stay on the shifter? Would you reccomend cutting the shifter down to keep from making it taller?

The shift **** should have 3 set screws in it that will clamp this in place and hold it fast.

It will only add about 1/8" in height - if you want to cut that off...

Your avatar. You really should either put the hatch back on when you race or the wind flap. The open top causes lots of drag.

Carl, what material is the adapter made of? I was just thinking that if it's too soft it'll stretch when you tighten it up or just after time being bashed around a bit.

Carl, your use of your nugget warrants my kudos. Its true Porsche pilots are typically science and engineering minded innovators. We need more of us....

Oh I get it...I'm betting AznDrgn didn't realize (no offense, I did it too) that the **** will slide much farther down than shown in the picture. Hence, no need for cutting it down. And I was wondering about it staying put too, but the **** sliding farther down fixes this too Good idea, Carl!

Re: Shifter wobble

My shifter is VERY loose side-to-side, and sometimes hard to find gears (2 and 5 in particular). I'm assuming part this will NOT fix my problem. Are there "shift linkage rebuild kits" that exist to take the slop out of my shifter? New bushings or something? I would REALLY love to know! Also, does the exhaust need to be lowered to rebuild said shifter? Any info appreciated. Thanks much!

Sean, the pin on the shifter that engages the rod to the tranny has worn and if you check archives you will find a fix for that or get a new shift lever for about 50 bucks. Also at the rear of the transmission is an adjuctment bolt and nut over a rubber bushing. Tightening the nut will also tighten up the side to side movement. Make sure you get lots of penetrating oil on it ahead of time or you will be in for a replacement bolt at the dealer for 25 bucks. Ask me how i know.

Jake 944CS - I did not post the price or the link to our website as I try to keep Rennlist from balatant commercialism and more about new product discussions.

We are selling it for $7.95

Here is a link for now, it will be on our website in our catalog within a week.
