I don't know if hydrogen fueled cars are less environmentally friendly, but the NO or NOX is formed when the combustion chamber is hot enough to cause the nitrogen(n2) in the air to disassociate into nitorgen atoms (N) which oxidize to NO and NO2.

Anyways, its over with til 2007. Im curious though, how do these scores look?? What is normal for our cars??

HC limit 220 - Mine was 130
CO limit 1.20 - Mine was 0.37
NOx - N/A (not tested)
CO2 limit 6 - Mine was 14.12

Congrats those numbers look healthy!

Like a said in your original post about your emmission test, "if you do the basis maintainance and your O2 sensor is good these cars are clean".

Don't worry be happy!

I think that the mechanic/tech may have had a valid point there. You might want to have your car looked at.

Again, no offense meant.
No offense but IMHO tifosiman is right, your car appears to be running hot.

Reading your first post I thought your car was running hot too. My S stays at the first line at speed. It will move 3/4 the way to the second line when I get off the freeway and enter stop and go traffic.

Those are good numbers but from your description I wouldn't trust them! Here in California we go through a computerized dyno run. Sounds like the guy just wanted you out of there and cut the test short. Good numbers if they are valid.

IMHO everyone should peroidically check to see if the fans are turning on correctly.

The later ('85.5 +) cars use 2 fan speeds to regulate the engine temp, a low speed to keep the temp just below the middle and if conditions are hot enough such as idling in traffic the fans will switch to high speed to provide over heat protection. In most cases the hight speed fan work or the car would over heat but the key is to check to see if the fans run at low speed to help keep the temp in the middle of the scale.

The fans are controlled by the thermo fan switch in the rad and the cooling fan relay. The thermo fan switch turns on the fans at low speed when the temp gauge reads about the middle or half way between the 1st and 2nd white tick marks (92 degrees C) until the temp returns to just above the 1st white mark. The thermo fan switch turns on the fans to run at high speed when the temp is just short of or at the 2rd white bar (102 degrees C) and they should run strong until the temp goes back to just above the 1st white bar.

Sorry for the over run, I will sign off now!

Cheers

Hey Tony, for what its worth, my dad has had three S2's over the years and they all ran just like you describe, without any overheating problems. It always seems like the S2 tends to run hotter than n/a's. It may just be a mental thing when I consider the S2 having a bigger motor, but it sure seems that way when I took glances at the temp gauge when I drove them.

I just had my whole cooling system replaced! I use a very respected mechanic that knows all 944s and 968s inside and out. The car cycled a million times like this once fixed, and that was "finally working correct". My previous mechanic who did some of the best work ive ever seen also verified this as being proper working order for an S2. I find it surprising i have soo many people telling me that my needle should not go beyond half way?? All the people i have hung out with at local meets that had S2s also reported the same behavior in the cars.

Sometimes Rennlist surprises me!

interesting read...

I noticed that my car used to run always at the middle bar on the temp gauge..after I had the water pump changed with the TB, she runs typically over the middle bar in traffic and comes down once we get moving...

My mechanic said that the new temp sender was a little different than original and that was all...
Now i wonder if my fan is coming on low speed during regular driving....will check

My car behaves exactly like yours Tony. Sitting still in traffic it goes up to the last white line and then the fans kick on. It drops back to the first white line and then starts the cycle over again.

I gotta do the emissions test BS in May. I'm really looking forward to throwing away $20.
(Yes, that's sarcastic)

My S2 is also the same. As long as it never goes above the second white line, it's cool. Cruising down the highway, it sits just under the middle.

That's exactly how my car runs and its an '83. Runs mine for me.
