Default Correct spark plugs? Early 1983 944

Well, I put in Bosch 4 platinums last spring, ran the 83 944 all summer, no problems, but I hear some poster not enthusiastic on these plugs, buy Champion coppers. they say
So, what is wrong with the Platinum 4s, and why should replace them with Champion coppers and if so which ones?
Thanks a bunch,
Mike

I've heard rumors of the cores falling out the platinum 4's. Plugs are like oils everyone has their favorite brand and type but you can't really ever go wrong with OE, Bosch.

Mike,

I put a set of Platinum plugs in the 83 I had. When it was at the dealer, the mechanic convinced me to change to copper core. He said that the copper plugs work better becuase the gove a stronger spark.

Platinum is a better conductor as I recall, so I was suprised. But if you look the platinum plugs, the center electrode is tiny compared to the copper electrode. Since the charge is carried entirely on the surface, the much larger copper electrode carries more charge than the small platinum electrode. Well, that's my opinion, anyway.

Give the NGK plugs a try. I had a set and I think I could tell a difference in performance. I think the NGKs are made better than the Bosch. The threads of the NGKs started consistently at the same place. I was able to get the open side of the electodes pointing toward the valves on all 4 cylinders with NGKs. I was only able to do this with two of the Bosch plugs. That "indexing" may have been the reason for the performance improvement I felt.

Good Luck.

I run Bosch coppers in my 944-spec car. 7DC's
I run Bosch Platniums (single electrode) in my 84 944 NA 8DP's

7's run a bitt cooler and 8's are hotter. Stock was an 8 for early cars and 7's for late cars. You could go with either plug.
