Default Where do I go to get aluminum welded?

I've got a wheel with a crack in it, and I want to make it a coffee table or end table out of it, with a piece of glass on top of a tire. The problem is because of where the crack is, a tire will not hold air. It's an aftermarket aluminum half, not a factory wheel, and since it will be a table the weld doesn't have to be too good, I'll file it down myself so the tire sits right (or close enough) on it, I just need it patched cheap. Any ideas?

Heh, about 500 miles away in Pittsburgh, but if I don't find a place here to do it I'll drop you a PM next time I'm on LI, which should be about 6 - 8 weeks.

Why does a coffee table have to hold air?

Because that way the tire will keep the glass off of the rim. It only needs to be a few pounds, just so teh tire is a bit inflated.

How would that help? I already have a bald tire that fits. It is free.

I thought about that, and it's a possibility, but I'd rather use metal if possible.

Call a machine shop......

Or a local welding supply place and ask them....

I think you need a tig for aluminum.....Or you could always braze it

Check out www.alumaloy.net. Do it yourself with just a propane torch. I saw it on TV, and it looked pretty good. Another option, why not put a tube in the tire?

The tire is a 285/30/18, is there a tube that will fit that?
