hey folks..I solved my worries about jacking by buying a second jack. I do a few levers on one side, walk around repeat till done. I drive up on 2 2x10's nailed together on each side to get the jacks easily under.

I repeat on the back if I am going up on both ends...YMMV

So, if I jack the car up using the center point, and wanna just take one wheel off at a time (to sand the rotor hats), what is the best (safest) way to do it?

I put my race car on jacks pretty often. It is part of my normal daily routine. I bleed the brakes, rotate tires, and do visual checks.

I put my jack on the center point on the side and then place two jack stands on that side of the car. I lift in one motion per side. Rear jack stand goes on the support for the t-bar not round part. Front usally goes on the bolts to the caster block. I have use the frame behind that, but without a board it will deform the frame. I have have enough marks to prove that

Here is a picture showing the rear jack stand point I use.

I don't know what you mean by "goes on the bolts to the caster block", I have an idea but to be on the safe side how about a pic of the front placement of the Jack stands. I don't like using the frame neither.

Well I don't have a picture with my jack in the right spot, but this will have to do.

My jack stand here is under frame and you just make out some crushing there. It should be where the blue box is.

Thanks! I wil try putting the jackstand where the blue box is and see if that works out as I am trying to avoid crushing the frame rail as you mentioned.

Thread resurrection!

Since I NEVER used jack stands, and rarely had to remove all my wheels, do I:

1) pull the parking brake
2) jack up one side till the wheels are removable
3) place a jack stand in the front and rear
4) use the ratchets on the stands to get them to where they touch the points on the frame
5) lower the jack, so the car rests on the stands
6) repeat on the other side

??

Also: On the way down, how slow do I have to go to avoid the car moving, or moving enough to fall off the other stands?

If your using two jackstands, I would do the front and then teh rear of the car. If you have 4, I'd lift one side until you can fit the jackstands at their lowest setting. Repeat on the other side. Then raise one side at a time until you reach the desired height.

I put my jackstands under the torsion bars in the rear and under the crosmember up front.

As for lowering the car, go slow but don't worry about it too much. You'll get a feel for it when you are doing it.

Default How does this look?

Hey guys,

Was wondering if I got this correct? Was working on the car for the first time and was kinda freaking out wondering if I was going to taco my sheet metal with the jack stands.

I used the stand and think I got them in the correct spots. Didn't have any crunching or bending, so I think it was ok, but just wanted to double check with the experts.

Can anyone confirm that I am in the right spots here?

Right side:

Thanks!

Ed
