I personally want to do it because it builds familiarity with my car. I really dont care how any other car works but this one, if i can work in and out of a 951 and hoplessly thorugh any other car then my goal has been met. On top of that, i preferr to do things myself.

If I had the time, I think it would be afun project, to figure out where everything goes. It would be nice to know like if you rock your seat back and suddenly your headlights dont work, its because this wire runs under that and blah blah.
I would probably be lazy and buy one off a lister who is parting out a car though.

I was kinda looking into doing this as well for a couple reasons:
1) my wiring harness is a mess right now as it's kinda pieced together after an engine fire this last fall
2) I need a 951 wiring harness anyways (I'm working on a 944N/A -> 951 conversion)
3) I don't have a 951 DME & KLR and am considering going with a standalone as an alternative.

Through my own error I had the power steering cut off wire (unique to 944S) short to ground and burn through to several other wires in my wiring harness. I tore the car apart late at night after towing it home. I went to bed thinking I would just solder in new connections since I am very capable with solder and shrink wrap. When I got up in the morning I said F' it and asked here for a used one. I got a very good used for $200 and I know I could have bought one for cheaper. The one I got was a recent replacement for some previous owner from Porsche and still had the part number label on it. So anyway I am very pleased with my purchase and feel like the car will be good with the used one for a long time.
Blah blah blah, anyway, I admire your project but is your labor really worth less than $200? Another lister here, I think XBoost90, was going to attempt this with the intent of selling replacement harnesses. He knows his wiring and was going to do the whole jig and so forth. He gave up because it was not economically viable. I am not meaning to discourage you from your project just giving you some background about it. Good Luck, I am sure you will have many supporters including myself.
