Wow! Great job! Didn't remember the 944 being previewed that early. Took a little longer for the 5 liter 928 to show up than they thought it would.

I think it's in a museum. I don't know which but I would bet on the Porsche museum in Stuttgart.

Just to add some more confusion; in the Car and Driver, May 1982 issue debuting the 944 it was said:

"Even in 1976, when the 924 was introduced, Porsche engineers recognized the limitations of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder and developed two alternatives. One was a 3.5- liter, 90 degree V-6 derived from the 928 engine; but experimentation with a 2.8-liter V-6 developed by Peugeot, Renault, and Volvo revealed that such an engine would weigh too much, consume too much fuel, run roughly, and be difficult to install on the assembly line. So it proved to be a second alternative that is being built at Porsche and installed on Audi's 944 production line"

Wasn't that the motor that was used in the Delorean? Too bad the twin turbo version never made it into production.

So the 2.5 is "just right". They didn't have to bore it (2.7L) or stroke it (3.0L) or put a turbo charger on it (951) or add two more valves per cylinder (944S).
