Default What's the going rate for a 944 2.5L crank?

Well,
It looks like the crank in one of my spare motor is too bad to be fixed. I spun a rod bearing in back in January. I replaced the entire motor with another spare of mine to keep the car running, but figured I could try to fix the crank on the old one.

Well the crank guy can fix it, but to get it back right it will take oversize .50 mm or more bearings. A quick check finds these bearing to be quite expensive vs first oversize .25 mm bearings.

So... I figure it may just be easier to buy a used crank in good condidtion vs trying to source expensive bearings and then spend a money on crank work.

So what is going rate for a 944 crank. 2.5L bone stock? Not bent or in need of machining. Maybe someone has motor with scored block that is taking up space?

They go for under $100 all day on eBay. I don't know what shape mine're in (haven't pulled them yet, one may be bent, the other should be fine) but will be in town for spring break in 2 weeks if you want to come yank one or both at that time and see if they're usable for you.

Sam,
Where are you cranks from? I figure that if the motor spun rod bearing the crank may be bent or will require machine work leaving me right where I am. If the block cracked or was scored then the crank is probably ok.

2 weeks... Well I will be out of town March 24-March 29. Two weeks is close to then. Let me know as I'd rather get one local. Shipping 50lbs of steel is going to be a pain.
If your's don't work out I can still look as I am not in any big hurry.

The possibly bent one is from a rod issue (seize and break, then lock), the other one is from a cracked cylinder and is probably ok.

3/18-25 for me, so I'll be around.

I paid around $60 to ship a crated 3L crank to me a little while ago - it's not too bad.

That cracked cylinder on is the one I'd be interested in. I figure that rod seize crank is bent worse than mine. If you remember my bearing spun, but I shut it down before I locked-up. I could even turn mine over. I figured would need a little machine work and be ok. Unfortunatly my crank guy said it was bent by .012" and would probably need to be machined more than .25 mm to get it back right. Thus I'd need second oversize or 3rd oversize bearings. That is cost kicker. Given that I'd bet that the one crank is bent at LEAST as much my current one.

Hopefully a cracked cylinder won't bend the crank. I will be in town the weekend of the 19,20th and after work so when you get in and have some time let me know.

I have one out of a 87 S that dropped a valve and cracked the piston top and cracked the cylinder.
