So wait, what about an S2 ????? The airbox is located in the nose outside the engine bay. Would doing these holes or adding a cone actually decrease power??? I could only imagine it changes the sound if anything assuming it doesnt ADD even minimal power.

Actually cutting the snorkle was secondary. The real threat is the vent hose from the belt cover. The front pulley will certainly see deep water way before the shorkel will. The belts make great water pumps. The vent hose is right at the upper balance shaft pulley where entrained water will be shed. Also with the belt vent pluged the shorkle will draw water so it's cut off so as to draw air from behind the headlight.

Though I do understand not wanting to "fix what isn't broken."
I'm sure some 993 guys remember the class action taken against Zuccone for creating a hot air intake and billing it a cold one. He posted dyno sheets that Bruce Anderson of Excellence challenged when dyno testing was done and published contradicting Todd's claims. He had to refund a lot of people and redesign the product. This is only for the rear engine models, so the 944 option is still an article of contention. My personal feeling is I'm happy for anyone that modifies their car that results in smiles for the owner. Debating principle and scientific theory is the fun part. $.02.
