F40's have the worst brakes of any supercar. Ask the guy that owns one. I had the pleasure of driving one at Road Atlanta, one and a half laps at 8/10 and they (the brakes) were toast. If I remember, F40's have the same size calipers and rotors as a non S 951. Maybe a F-car expert could confirm that for me, but I believe I'm correct.

I also think I would be tempted to increase rather than decrease bore size.

Decrease the bore size, same principal as anengine hoist. The less fluid in the master concentrates the leverage instead of spreading it out apon more fluid. 911s had an electric booster IIRC on the mid to late 80s and into the 90s. I also thought of a hydraulic booster that audi and GM used. Look at the Chevy Astro vans, PS pump assised PWR brakes. The unit is about the size of the master.

I'm completely in love with it, except I love the sound of our stock engine more than the roar of the V8. It could make a hell of a project for a daily driver though. >:-)

Nice car Steve. It looks like a blast to drive. You were lucky to find a toasted 951 for $1800 to start with.

Steve- That is incredible! I think an LS-1 in an N/A would make a really great daily driver as well.

Yes, Jeff (hyrbid944) is going to have a very sweet daily driver when done with it. His is scheduled to be the next LS1 build out of Renegade Hybrids, with a mainly street use while still being able to enjoy a fun DE weekend at the track.

Brakes - sorry I forgot to respond about this...they are manual brakes now, with the stock 951 brakes and aggressive Hawk Black track pads. On the street it was no big deal. It takes more effort to push the pedal down, but at the same time, it has a very direct feel to it. At the track, it took a lot of pedal effort to get to the point of lock-up, which took some getting used to. I am going to likely keep running it for a bit as is, and see if I get used to it, although before too long I will most likely just upgrade to the Big Red brakes. I expect they will make threshold braking a good bit easier.

So what are you saying? My brakes suck? Both the 951 and F40 can use better brake-pads for track use. The manufacturers most likely decided on a compound that worked well for street-use. All the tests I've seen show the F40 beating the 951 by about 15-20ft in 60-0 braking distances.

The F40's brakes are 13" (330mm) front & rear, about 1" larger than the non-S 951. Different calipers, but same brake-pads as the non-S 951. I've been carrying an extra set of Pagids around hoping to offer Amir a set when he toasts his F40's pads at the track. But alas, he's long since upgraded to 15.5" rotors and 8-pot Brembo calipers...

BTW - all the '91+ US-spec F40s had power-brakes...

According to http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/19344.shtml , the 2004 Corvette's mileage is:

18 city
25 highway

That's pretty damn good for me, while still having some screamin' power and performance. I don't know exactly how the 944 differences will affect the mileage, but I expect that the Corvette is a 6 speed with a very tall 6th gear for cruisin' mileage, thus yielding the stellar 25 highway miles/gallon. The LS1 944 street car may weigh a hundred or two less than the corvette, which might help a bit, but again I'm no expert on what would determine the difference in mileage.

Now put the lead foot down around town and you'll certainly see those figures drop a good bit. That much I do know!

I just noticed that the ls1 engine looks like it sits lower in the car than a regular 944 engine so this may improve the center of gravity (or may not.)

Can anyone confirm that the bulk of the weight is actually lower or if its just my eyes playing tricks on me?
