Default PICTURES!

please help, turning the crank, i do not see the scribed line on the flywheel when the cam is close to the timing mark. the pictures shows where my cam timing mark is pointing when the mark on the flywheel is dead on where andy showed me. the picture is photoshopped to show where the timing mark is.

Uh, that cam mark is 180 degrees off, it should be line up with that notch in the metal cover at about the 1 oclock position as looking at the cam gear from the front.

Default correction

Kenny,

Tried that one too, a couple of weeks ago. What I had to do is take a small flashlight, climb INTO the engine compartment and use a long wrench to turn the crank. With age, dirt, oil and grime the mark can get to being close to impossible to see. It took me about 45min to find it, no kidding. Once you get it to the top paint it or something so that you can see it again next time you need to. It was actually easier to see the speed and ref marks on the wheel than it was to see the timing mark. Just keep going back and forth and you will eventually find it.

Your cam mark is like others have said about 180deg off.

Good luck!

Michael

on arnnworx, he says to have the cam mark 1.5 teeth before the timing mark.....i have it set there now, WITH the belt tensioned. is this right? or will they completly line up with the belt tensioned? im going to take another pic to show where my cam is pointing in relation to the flywheel being dead on.

see? is this right? andy showed me the pointer should be on the bottom of the line. ie. top of pointer/bottom of flywheel mark. this is where the cam is in relation to the flywheel mark being on top of the pointer.

Guys, that's not 180* off. Remember, the crank rotates twice for each rotation of the cam. The crankshaft just needs to rotate one more time.

its really hard to turn over now, and it kinda pops over after it reaches what im guessing is compression. it wants to spin itself after it "peaks". im trying to put it back to where it was at the first picture, but its giving me hell.

Yep, that's compression then expansion. You're having to do all the compression yourself, and then the valves open up and it gets easy. If you pulled the plugs it would be easier too.
