I've got 2 sets of 15x7 phone dials for my 924S, running 225/50-15's on both (street and track). I've never had a problem finding good tire choices in that size, and I think they look much better than the taller option (225/60-15). Keep in mind that my car is a 924S, so the rear arch is flattened, and I've also lowered the car front & rear a bit, so that helps too.

There are plenty of choices out there from Dunlop, Bridgestone, BFG, Yoko, Pirelli, Kumho, etc. I'm currently running Dunlop SP Sport 8000's (and very happy with them).

Let me know if you want close-up pics for comparisons...

Kevin, Are there any advantages/disadvantages/different stance from the different size tires?

I like to use the same size all the way around whenever possible - it makes rotating that much easier. Also, my 225/50's are already pretty low profile, the 205/50's would be even shorter. That would make for an even larger opening and also make the speed-o read that much faster.

Speed-o reads: 60mph in all examples below...

225/60-15: actual speed 61.1mph
215/60-15: actual speed 60mph <stock size>
225/50-15: actual speed 56.9mph
205/50-15: actual speed 55mph

Personally, I think 205's look kinda skinny on the front of a 944... that brings you down to what those "air cooled cars" are running

I went with 205/60 Traction T/A's. THey are nice tires. Car handles worlds better then with 195/65 tires. I almost went with 205/55 Touring T/A's but I thought that the Traction T/A's tread design looked better on the 924.

This is a 215/60R15. This is not the best picture, I had to make it in my garage. Tire is Goodyear Eagle GT2. A different angle might be better, not sure what you are looking for.

I have 225/50 15 Yokohama ES100's on mine - I like the tires, but I actually think the Yokohama Parada Spec 2's (on my VW) stick much better. I do like the look of the 225/50's on the 944 though.

The Parada Spec II is one of the biggest gimmicks to ever hit the market. Looks cool though.

Just curious what you would do in this situation. I currently have 16inch D90's with Yokohama Avid V4S tires. 205/55 front and 225/50 rear.

I am looking around for a set of phonedials to use and put some summer tires on. I would opt for 16-inch PD's, but they are expensive and a little harder to come by. I am likely getting a set of 15-inch PD's instead. The question is would you run the D90's or the PD's with summer tires. I plan to keep atleast one set with all-seasons and one set with good summer tires.

I have read alot about people saying that 15 inch is the optimal size for autocross..etc. However the choices of tire a bit limited when shopping for something to fit the 15 inch wheels.

On my 84 Daily Driver I run 205/55 225/50 on 16" fuchs. This is what came on the car and I think is ideal for a street car. Looks are great and handling is very nice. I do think 225/50 on 15's are better for autocross, but for street driving it does not make any sense since I don't need that tiny bit more grip from 225's and smaller diameter.

So what is probably best for you to make the 16" your summer tires and 15" winter tires using 215/60 or may be a 205/60. Narrow is better in ice and snow. If you like to autocross then swap the 15' for R tires in 225/50 and keep the 16's for crusing and looking good.

I've had 205's on the front of my 944 - Never again. Braking is crap and it becomes very easy to lock up the fronts. Currently have 225's up front and very pleased.
