radiator fan running for atleast the past hour with P-Car turned off. what gives??

With respect, I replaced mine from going in from the top. So it is possible. I did also try going from underneath, but same confinement. Also if you go from underneath and don't drain the coolant you are giong to get a faceful.
I do agree that it is not totally necessary to drain the coolant, your choice.

i had to remove alot just to un-screw the fan assembly and to un-screw the fan switch up top. when the new fan switch was put in the pass. side fan was running even with the engine off. the driver side fan did not come on even when the 944 was driven and the temp. needle was in the middle of the gauge. if 1 side works and the other side does not work what are the chances of the entire fan assembly is in need of being replaced?
