Default Clutch job, Replace PP Bolts?

I got a clutch kit from Pelican parts. For some reason, I thought it came with new PP bolts. I was wrong it only came with new flywheel bolts. Should I replace the PP bolts? I had to drill 1 out so obviously that one will need to be replaced but what about the rest.....

It's a good idea to use new bolts after going through all that work. The torque is not very high but it pays to have clean threads. I used new ones because my old PP had the internal hex and they tend to round out if not seated perfectly square. I used Loctite on them also.

Yes...always replace PP and Flywheel bolts. These are stretch bolts and become brittle after being retorqued. I think the flywheel bolts are about 1.25 each and the PP bolts are less than 1.00 each.

Well this was my feeling. I mean, I just layed out $800 in parts/tools. Why would I shortcut something so basic? I'm just pissed at myself I didn't order them when I ordered the rest of the stuff since I wanted to assemble this weekend. I will check availability with the local Porsche Stealer today.

Another item you may be missing is the Sachs grease that goes on the drive shaft splines and lubes the clutch disc so it slides back and forth easy on disengagement. It is a strange grease - if you stick your finger in it and withdraw you have a thin long filament trailing sort of like a thread of a spider web. I believe Sachs put a bit of effort into this grease so it is not any run-of-the-mill grease. When you look at and clean off the old grease Porsche used it is white and hard as a rock .... so that wasn't a very good product.

Funny you mention that white Porsche grease. I have a 12 way seat with lumbar adjustment. The lumbar up and down didn't work. I took my seat apart to put some different covers on and figure out why the lumbar up/down didn't work. When I got in there, the mech. that moves the lumbar up/down was filled with that hardened white grease. Also the mech. housing was broken probably because that stuff got so hard, it could transmit the motor power correctly. Anyways, I fixed it.

BTW who sells the Sachs grease?

I bought my Cup clutch kit from Zims and they had it in little packets like a soy sause packet size at take out. Crazy overpriced at a dollar or two a packet, but what can you do? I only needed one to do the job but you may as well get two so you are not caught short. As you noted, you already have $800 sunk into parts and at least 20 hours of labor on the horizon so don't get caught short on something simple.

Although it is best practice to replace the PP and Flywheel bolts, from lack of remembering to order them, I have re-used them and am on my 3rd clutch (208K miles on the car). So I wouldn't get too worried about re-using them....
