944 acceleration

Those figures dont mean much at all, especially since theyre from the euro cars with higher compression.
In a nutshell:
951 - fast
s2 - getting there
s - why am I not going anywhere? You haven't hit 6k rpm yet...
924 s - just like comparing a civic EX and DX - slow
944 - slow

Well, it's all a matter of preception right? My 944 is plenty fast for me, since my other cars have been 3 VW bugs, 1 Karmann Ghia, 1 Subaru GL wagon, 1 1980 924. So my 944 is the fastest car I've ever owned! Anyway, it's the corners that count.

Yeah, but the S runs a quarter mile from a standstill about 1 full second faster than an 8V. That's a HUGE difference!
The goal for my (not-yet-purchased-but-going-to-test-drive-it-tonight-and-hopefully-buy-it) '88 944 is S-like performance figures in a straight line. It's gonna take some creativity (all the usual bolt on parts, hoping to lose ~200 lbs, and some good tuning) but I really don't think that's out of reach. Here's hoping!

Some of the differences in times may have something to do with the fact that the times were clocked by different magaznes. About the S, the S is slower than the 8v in the lower RPM range and that it really takes going to the top end to show what the 16v can do. Perhaps that would explain the taller gearing?
