GO MOTOR!!!

When I saw his specs (below) I saw 375 hp, and only saw the 75 and assumed it was the same 275 as the LT1 in my 93. my bad. 375hp in a 2000lb car. Whoa!

CHEVY ZZ4 V8 ENGINE INFO

Anyone here ever drive a 911/912 of that vintage on the track? In their original form with the 4 or 6 out back they are spin-happy at speed. Imagine what the addition of all that weight hanging out there does in the turns, not to mention how out of whack the suspension mods make things.. This mod ruins the cars handling. It's a dragster now.

Exactly my thoughts too Guards Red. You know that has to be significant extra poundage back there and with a somewhat higher CG I think. It must be a handling nightmare....

maybe I'm being niave, but, wouldn't the cost of all the custom fab work and labor+engine and parts be similar to the cost of putting a high end 911 engine in?

True, but you're leaving out the "bastard" 914 which in Europe was even marketed as a "bastard" VW-Porsche. I suppose in the eyes of a purist the 912 would be the least "bastard" of all three because Hey, at least it looks like a real Porsche.

I have to agree with Pat. That's horrible. Maybe if I bought it I could sell the V8 and get another 912 parts car with a decent engine and. . .

Of course on the other hand...perhaps somebody wanted to do something just because it was FUN and just because they COULD....Where's all the devilry in that?

Guys were putting 350's in stretched Harleys long before H.D. approved the Boss Hog...Does a bike need that much engine? Does it handle the way it would have if it was bone stock or improved with H.D.-only parts? No. But I've ridden one and I can tell you: They're a blast!!!

Same thing here. It's fun. It's a conversation-piece. I say go for it.

My $.02.

a 912 has about a 45-55 weight distribution.. a 912 is not exactly a spin happy car, as one would think. the weight of the engine is alot less than a 911, and it can out handle a 911 quite easily. they actually handle very well. granted though, you can make any car spin.

this car is a disgrace.

you purists kill me....you and your perfect 6-7k$ cars......
rotflmao

this kinda thing gets me sad. on this board, the 944 owns all. On my zx-12 board, it is the best bike in the world. On the NSX board, there is also the "holier than thou" mentality. 90% of the people on all three boards need to grow up and open their mind (can't believe I just said that as I am extremely anti-hippie) but the constant arrogant elitist attitudes just seem to cheapen the overall hobby and experience. Granted, this board seems young compared to others, but that is only an excuse. Some guys need to spend more time with their cars than posting and acting like an internet god, pretending to know all and pass judgement like their opinion is the only one that matters.

Sweet car, needs some work to make it pretty. I'd drive and enjoy it, just like the guy that originally built the thing.....

I hear ya loud and clear Tom. Although I wouldnt pay for that particular car, Id sure as hell drive it around for awhile. And while we are on this topic I think someone mentioned George911V8. Although he might not be, his car is bad ***, Yeah Id rather have a turbo 3.3 or 3.6 motor in the back of a C2 but you cant say his car isnt well done and exactly what he wanted to get out of it...

Exactly! I agree 100%.
A car enthusiast is a car enthusiast.
A holier than thou attitude pisses me off more than just about anything.
Thanks Tom Must be something about the name!

Bolding mine, for effect to the reader. Really though what do you expect? There is a certain rationalization that comes with any passionate group of enthusiasts, "mine is better than yours." Hell, when has the Porsche crowd ever been non-elitest, it's one of the founding principals. Yes, the crowd is young compared to say, Ferrari owners but there aren't a lot of Ferraris that most young people could even consider owning. There are plenty of affordable Porsches and for whatever reason they drive them, those people alos have a certain attitude about why/what they drive. Sure, it comes off as elitest, but really find me one owner group (of anything!) that doesn't adhere to a certain level of holier-than-thou. Have you ever been in a Apple users group? Damn. Talk about elitest. Or even PC-vs-Apple. Even worse! I don't see many ideas around the 924/944/968 board that get struck down with a vengance, the resistence to putting an American motor in a German car, well, I can understand that. To me, it's an unrefined brute force method, I would perfer puting a Cayenne V8 engine in my car but how much do those cost?

Oh and about my GeorgeV8911 comments, I was really just refering to the massive flame wars that George and Carlos would stir up. The car itself I'm sure was amazing, and from the pictures looked very nicely done. Still, his elitest attitude was overwhelming.
