Default Compressed Front Bumper Shock

Here's another of my long winded stories:

Had a wonderful thing happen at Olive Garden tonight. Came out and someone in a Ram 1500 had parked in the space facing mine and actually hit me on the driver side rubber bumper pad.....and left it parked it there with my bumper compressed about 1 inch just on the drivers side. Took pictures on the picture phone, backed it up, but the bumper did not "spring" back. Called the police, police got there, looked at it and the pictures, and told me since it was on private property they could only make sure that information was exchanged. They got the guys name off the plate and went into the restaurant and found the guy. Turns out he is a volunteer sheriff's posse member and knew the cop. I don't think the guy did it deliberately, but I was a little miffed when he started to deny hitting the Porsche. He was trying to say that it was impossible because there were no marks on his truck, someone hit it at an angle, and he would not leave it parked like that, would have left a note, blah blah blah... and I showed him the picture of where he crossed the marked parking area and where he had left it parked in contact with my car and still did not think it was his fault. If I had a turbo or S2, there would have definitely been some valance damage.

Enough of the OT content...Now for the Tech portion. (J/K )

I now have a compressed front bumper shock. Do these things pop back out or do they need to be replaced?

Thanks!

Brad

Replace them. I picked one off of ebay for like $5 when someone hit the rear of my car in a parking lot.

Actually I was considering doing the S2 snub nose conversion, but now I am rethinking that with what I experienced last night...the bumper did its job.....

My thoughts exactly. Right now you're looking at a five dollar repair and maybe 30 minutes of work. I had something similar happen to my rear bumper. I loosened some bolts, took out the old shock, and it just popped into place. Cheap, simple fix.

Now imagine if you had the "snub nose," and what the damage would be like. Much more expensive and time consuming.

Form should follow function. Those bumper shocks are 100% functional, and may even add a bit of energy absorption in high-speed impacts.
