Default Going to do Ball Joints, anything else while I am in there?

My driver side wheel has some play in it, so I was thinking ball joints and possibly bearings. Should I do anything else while I have everything apart? Also, can someone tell me which bearings to get (i.e. part numbers)? On one of the vendor sites I saw inner and outer and don't know if I need both or was looking at the wrong thing. Thanks

Hello, what year 944 is this? Pre 85.5 have steel control arms, 85.5 and later have cast control arms. Ball joints on the latter are a bit tougher to replace, but doable.

The front bearings can be tightened up to an extent. There are inner and outer bearings and races. I posted a write up a while back on tightening them. Do a search for it. Replacing them shouldn't be necessary unless they're broken. To find out if they're broken you need to drop the front brake calipers, though. You don't if you're just tightening them up a bit. It's also explained pretty well in http://www.clarks-garage.com and the Haynes Manual.

Another item to check in either case are the caster blocks and related bushings. What wheels are on the car? Stock, or larger aftermarket?

If you are doing ball joints in your aluminum arms you would do well to get acquainted with:

www.rennbay.com and
www.arnnworxs.com

I plan on getting the ball joint kit from Rennbay. Where can you pick up the caster blocks?

paragon products and others. Search for skip as a user name, the link to paragon is to be found in his posts. I wish I had done my struts when I was in there.
