synchro to 3rd gear?

synchro to 3rd gear?
For some reason (synchro maybe) I can no longer downshift from 4th to third. Also when shifting from 2nd to 3rd, sometimes there is a bit of a grind. Any ideas? All the other gears seem to be ok. This is an '83 NA. Probably the original 5spd tranny.

Even if the synchro isn't doing its job, you should be able to match speeds via double clutching (heel & toe) to get the downshift. If the sychro had actually cracked and come apart, I don't think you would be able to upshift into 3rd either. How many miles?
